Małopolska Science Center Cogiteon, Science museum in Kraków, Poland
Małopolska Science Center Cogiteon is a science museum in Kraków built around interactive exhibits, laboratories, and workshops spread across a large building. Its main exhibit, 'Man and His Dreams,' brings together around 100 stations divided into five themed sections covering nature, technology, and human experience.
The center was built as part of a regional effort to bring science and education to a wider public in the Małopolska region. It was constructed near the former Rakowice-Czyżyny airport, a historically significant site on the edge of Kraków.
The name Cogiteon connects Descartes' famous phrase 'I think, therefore I am' with the work of Polish poet Zbigniew Herbert and his character Pan Cogito. The Greek suffix 'eon' points to the art and performance activities that regularly take place inside the center.
The center is open most days but closes on Mondays, so it is worth checking before you go. Booking tickets in advance is a good idea, especially on weekends and during school holidays when it tends to fill up quickly.
On the roof of the building sits the first open rooftop garden of its kind in Kraków, with sections inspired by plants from Africa, Eurasia, and the plains of North America. On a clear day, visitors standing there can spot the Tatra Mountains in the far distance.
