Andreas von Jerin Silver Altar, Mannerism silver altar in Wrocław Cathedral, Poland.

The Andreas von Jerin Altar is a mannerist work housed in Wrocław Cathedral, crafted predominantly from silver. The center depicts religious figures against a fabric backdrop, while four hinged wings on either side contain painted scenes and additional silver statuary.

A bishop commissioned this work in the late 1500s, representing an enormous financial commitment of the period. This substantial investment reveals how important such artistic works were to the church of that era.

The side wings display silver statues of saints important to the local faithful, representing religious devotion of the period. These figures reflect which holy people held meaning for the worshipping community at that time.

The altar is located inside the cathedral, so viewing it requires entering the sacred space during visiting hours. As a religious site, the environment calls for quiet and respectful behavior during your visit.

The artwork was disassembled and hidden during World War II, scattering its components for decades. Only in the 2010s could specialists recover and reassemble most of the original pieces.
