Północny Park in Sopot is a coastal urban park that runs along the Baltic Sea for roughly 2 kilometers, from the Swelina stream at the Gdynia border down to the Sofitel Grand Sopot hotel. It is divided into a southern section with lawns, paths, and sculptures, and a northern section that is mostly forest.
The open area at the heart of the park was known about 100 years ago as Manowcowy Square and served as a place where fishermen dried their nets. Over the following decades it was gradually transformed into a green space and expanded into the park that exists today.
The park sits close to the sea and is used daily by locals for walking, cycling, and skating along its paved paths. The northern wooded section feels wilder and draws people who want to spend time near nature without leaving the city.
The park is open year-round and can be entered from the Sofitel Grand Sopot hotel end or from the Swelina stream side near Gdynia. Paths are paved and suitable for walking, cycling, and skating, though the northern forested section has rougher terrain.
The northern forest section of the park is protected as a nature reserve because of the rare mushrooms that grow there, including morels and scarlet elf cups. Birdwatchers visiting this part of the park can also spot woodpeckers, wrens, and chaffinches among the trees.
