Grand Hotel, Five-star hotel in Sopot, Poland.
The Grand Hotel is a five-star establishment on the Baltic shore in Sopot, Poland, with a white facade and decorated balconies. Large halls occupy the ground floor and above them rise several stories with rooms facing the sea.
Otto Kloeppel designed the building in the early 20th century as a representative house for spa visitors on the Pomeranian coast. After World War II the Polish state took over the property and continued running it as a beach resort.
The dining hall carries a 1920s café atmosphere with marble tables and chandeliers. On warm days tall windows open to the shore and guests eat while watching the wooden pier.
The reception desk opens around the clock and staff speak several languages. The pool and spa area are located in the basement with a separate entrance from the beach side.
A wooden display case in the lobby holds yellowed postcards from the 1930s showing views of the original ballroom. The postcards show dancers in evening dress and the same chandelier still hanging today.
