Lighthouse in Sopot, Maritime navigation tower in Sopot, Poland
The Lighthouse in Sopot is a white square tower with a pyramidal roof located next to the Baltic beach and a long wooden pier. The structure reaches 33 meters tall and provides views across Gdansk Bay from its observation platform.
The structure was built in 1904 as a chimney for a health center and initially served a different purpose. In 1977 it was converted into a navigation lighthouse with modern lighting equipment.
The tower represents Sopot's connection to the sea and its past as a seaside destination for visitors seeking rest and recreation. Today it serves as a viewpoint where travelers can see across the bay and coastline.
You can climb 136 steps to reach the observation platform and see the surrounding area. The climb takes some effort, so wear good shoes and be prepared for physical activity.
The tower was not originally built as a lighthouse but as practical infrastructure for the nearby health center. Many visitors do not realize the structure served a different purpose for more than a century before becoming what it is today.
