Teatro São Luiz, Historical theatre in Chiado, Portugal
Teatro São Luiz features a Parisian architectural style with interior decorations including a fresco created by Italian set designer Luigi Manini in 1894.
The theatre started as Teatro Dona Amélia, named after the Portuguese Queen, and transformed into the first cinema in Portugal to screen sound films in 1931.
The venue presents numerous theatrical productions, musical concerts, conferences, and contemporary performances throughout its multiple performance spaces and winter garden.
Located at Rua António Maria Cardoso 54 in Lisbon, the theatre offers sign language sessions and audio descriptions for performances to accommodate all visitors.
The building contains a gastro-bar operated by Chef José Avillez, serving specialized dishes such as ferrero rocher de foie gras to theatre attendees.
