Baia spans across 39 square kilometers of land in the Moldova region, situated at an elevation of 365 meters above sea level.

The settlement, first documented as Civitas Moldaviae, served as the initial capital of Moldova and housed the earliest princely residence in the territory.

The White Church, constructed by Stefan the Great, and the ruins of a Catholic cathedral from 1410 represent the architectural legacy of medieval Moldova.

The commune maintains four schools, four kindergartens, and the Nicolae Stoleru vocational school, serving its population of 7,261 residents.

Archaeological excavations revealed human settlements dating back to 5200 BCE, with artifacts from the pre-Cucuteni period indicating continuous habitation.
