Rezervația de Zimbri - Neamț, Nature reserve in Neamț County, Romania
The reserve is a nature preserve in Neamț County with extensive forested areas where European bison live in different conditions across the landscape. The site includes both open spaces and fenced zones where animals live under controlled or semi-free arrangements.
The reserve was founded in 1968 and received its first European bison in 1970, launching an important conservation mission. These early years established the foundation for one of Europe's most significant bison protection efforts.
The name refers to the bison species that inhabit this land, and visitors can see how the animals adapt to living in different settings throughout the reserve. The sight of these large creatures moving through the forest creates a strong connection between people and the wildlife.
The best way to see the animals is through guided safari walks and marked trails that go through the reserve. A special viewing area provides good conditions for watching the bison up close.
This is the only place in Europe where you can see European bison living in three different states at the same time: completely free, semi-free, and in controlled settings. This arrangement allows a rare comparison between wild and managed populations.
