Monaster Sihăstria

Monaster Sihăstria is an Orthodox monastery situated in a secluded valley of the Secu stream, roughly 24 kilometers west of Târgu Neamț in northern Romania. The complex includes a main church, residential buildings, a bakery, and other structures arranged around a central courtyard.

The monastery was founded in 1655 by the hermit Atanasie and seven followers, then experienced decline in its early years. A major reconstruction took place in 1734 under Bishop Ghedeon of Roman, which restored the community's stability.

The main church displays traditional Moldavian building style with thick stone walls and keeps its simple interior without excessive decoration. Monks follow a daily spiritual routine that shapes the rhythm of monastic life here.

Visitors can stay overnight in dormitories and share meals in the dining hall, which offers an immersive monastic experience. It's important to ask ahead of time, as the monastery's ability to accept guests depends on community capacity.

The monastery cemetery holds the graves of many respected fathers, including Father Cleopa Ilie who produced extensive works of spiritual teachings. His writings remain influential in Eastern Orthodox tradition today.
