Golia Monastery, Orthodox monastery in Iași, Romania
Golia Monastery is a Renaissance-style monastery in Iași with thick stone walls, corner towers, and a central bell tower dominating the composition. The complex includes several buildings with distinctive arches arranged around a central courtyard.
Prince Vasile Lupu and his son Stefanita built the monastery church between 1650 and 1653 on the site of an earlier religious establishment. The construction strengthened Orthodox influence in the city during a transformative period.
The monastery hosts the Trinitas Cultural-Missionary Institute, which runs a publishing house, printing facilities, and a radio station that remain active in community life.
A staircase inside the bell tower allows visitors to climb to the top and view the city below. The ascent is steep, so comfortable footwear is recommended.
The monastery served as the setting for royal wedding ceremonies in the late 17th century, making it a place of political importance. These events gave it significance beyond its religious role.
