Bărboi Church, Orthodox church in Iași, Romania.
Bărboi Church is an Orthodox church in Iași built with Byzantine-style architecture featuring a Greek cross plan with a central dome and smaller surrounding domes. The structure combines stone blocks and brick in alternating layers, and its interior space is divided into three aisles separated by columns made of Carrara marble.
The church was built between 1841 and 1843 under the direction of architect Andrei Caridi. It was constructed on the foundations of an earlier building from 1615 that had been dedicated to Saint Paraschiva.
This church serves as a spiritual center for Iași's Orthodox community and displays traditional Romanian religious art forms throughout its interior spaces. Visitors can observe how the space functions during services and witness the role sacred imagery plays in daily worship.
The church is located on Bărboi Street and is open during prayer times when regular religious services take place. The interior is accessible to visitors, and temporary art exhibitions are occasionally held in its spaces.
The crypt beneath the church holds the burial remains of Prince Ioan Sturdza and poet Alecu Russo. The tower once contained writer Costache Conachi's personal library before it was relocated.
