Dosoftei house, Literary museum in Iași, Romania.

Dosoftei House is a historic monument in Iași that now operates as a literary museum displaying works from centuries past. The building features three facades with arched windows and a covered porch held up by six sturdy stone columns.

This structure was built in 1677 on land that had once served as a cemetery for a nearby church. It later became home to one of the earliest printing operations in the city, helping to spread texts written in Romanian.

The building served as a center for spreading religious texts and liturgical works throughout the region. It reflects the role that Iași played in making written Romanian language accessible to its people.

The house sits on Anastasie Panu Street and is straightforward to find in the city center. Visitors should set aside enough time to walk through the rooms and examine the collections displayed throughout.

The building is one of the rare survivors from the old trade quarter of Saint Friday, which once stretched across a large part of the city. Its presence today offers a window into how the city was organized in earlier times.
