Old Saint George's church in Iași

Old Saint George's Church is a Romanian Orthodox church building with baroque architectural elements, recognizable by its stone walls and rounded western side. The structure sits in the central area of Iași surrounded by other significant historical buildings.

The church was established in the 17th century as a center of Orthodox worship in Iași. It ceased functioning in 1887 and later received official designation as a historic monument.

The church holds silver artifacts from the early 1800s and a Greek Gospel from 1793, serving as a repository for Orthodox religious treasures. These objects reflect how the congregation preserved its spiritual traditions through precious items.

The church is located near Boulevard Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt in the city center and can be easily reached on foot. Keep in mind that the building no longer functions as an active church, so interior access may be limited.

The building shows Armenian architectural influences, particularly visible in its rounded altar design and massive wooden iconostasis from 1800. This blend of Armenian and Orthodox elements makes the structure unusual for the region.
