Baia Turcească din Iași, Turkish bath heritage monument in Iași, Romania.
Baia Turcească is a historic monument in Iași built as a bathhouse with neo-Moorish architecture featuring fine Islamic details on its exterior. Inside are multiple rooms with pools, while colorful stained glass windows allow natural light to filter through the various spaces.
The building was constructed between 1897 and 1898 by Italian architect Iginio Vignali, replacing an earlier structure that had fallen into disrepair by the late 1800s. For over a century after its opening, the site served multiple functions before being adapted as a cultural venue in the early 2000s.
The name reflects the region's Ottoman heritage, and the interior still displays the characteristic chambers and pools of a traditional bathhouse. Visitors can experience the spatial layout that shows how such places once served as important gathering spots in daily life.
The building is located near the city center of Iași and is easily accessible on foot. Following extensive maintenance work that began in 2016, it is now open to visitors and offers insight into a well-maintained structure of historical importance.
During the 1980s, students relied on this building for access to hot water, which was rare in student dormitories. This everyday practice shows how the historic structure remained part of the city's practical life for decades.
