Assumption of Mary Church, Iași, Roman Catholic church in Iași, Romania
Assumption of Mary Church is a stone building in Iași with a tall cylindrical bell tower and simple plastered exterior walls without ornamental details, located on Stefan cel Mare Boulevard. The layout is functional and practical, designed to serve as a parish facility.
The original wooden structure, known as the Franciscans' Church, existed since Moldavia's founding and suffered destruction from fires in 1766 and 1827. Reconstruction in stone shaped the building's appearance as we see it today.
Inside, three marble altars serve as the spiritual center of the parish. The space holds memories of religious figures from different periods of its history.
The building has served as a parish facility since 2005, after a larger cathedral was constructed in the 1990s. The location offers a more intimate setting for visitors interested in traditional church architecture.
A sundial from 1813 remains visible on the south wall, showing the long roots of timekeeping at this place. Inside sits a classical Austrian organ with twenty-one registers that is still used for services today.
