Székelybánja, Medieval fortress in Leț, Romania

The stone fortress stands on a strategic hilltop location, featuring defensive walls and watchtowers that overlook the surrounding Székely region.

Built during the 13th century, Székelybánja served as a military garrison to protect trade routes and control movement through the mountain passes.

The fortress represents the architectural methods of medieval Transylvanian defense structures, incorporating both Saxon and Hungarian building techniques.

Visitors can reach the fortress ruins through a marked trail from the village of Leț, with parking available at the base of the hill.

The fortress name, meaning 'Székely regret' in Hungarian, refers to its function as a means to maintain control over the local Székely population.
