Besenyői-tó, tó Romániában
Besenyői-tó is an artificial reservoir in Covasna County created in the 1980s by damming the Besenyő-patak stream. The water body stretches roughly 2 kilometers and is bordered by gentle slopes and reed beds, with shorelines that vary from shallow wetlands to steeper banks depending on location.
The reservoir was built in the late 1980s to support irrigation for local farmland. Over time, its role expanded to include flood control as authorities recognized it could regulate water levels during heavy rainfall and protect surrounding areas.
The name comes from the nearby village of Besenyő. The shoreline is lined with reeds and scattered trees that create a natural frame for local life. Families and anglers gather here regularly, and the water has become woven into daily routines and local stories.
The lake is open day and night, though parking requires a fee. Fishing and camping involve small charges, and visitors should bring their own food and water as services are limited on site.
The water holds various fish species like carp, pike, and pike-perch that are regularly stocked to maintain angling opportunities. In winter, hardy anglers cut holes in the ice to fish even during the coldest months.
