Vojlovica monastery

Vojlovica monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery near Pančevo that houses the Church of Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel with a single-nave structure, semicircular altar, and rectangular choir rooms. The complex features an octagonal dome above the nave and a covered structure above the entrance area, creating distinctive architectural proportions.

The monastery was founded in 1405 by Despot Stefan Lazarević as an important site for Serbian Orthodoxy. Its first documented reference dates to 1542 when hieromonk Partenija recorded its role as a spiritual center.

The monastery walls display religious paintings from the 18th century and hold a baroque iconostasis with sacred representations of Serbian Orthodox tradition. These artworks visible inside reflect the spiritual practices that have shaped community life for generations.

The monastery is located within the Pančevo Oil Refinery grounds about 8 kilometers from the city center. Access requires a taxi or car since it sits in an industrial area, so plan ahead for your visit.

A chapel was built directly above a historic mill in 1890, creating an unusual structure that sits on top of the mill building. This surprising arrangement connects the spiritual and economic functions that once coexisted at the site.
