The Petnica Cave network extends for 600 meters underground, featuring mineral deposits and diverse geological formations throughout its chambers and passages.
Archaeological excavations in 1969 revealed the first complete Neolithic habitat in Serbia, dating back approximately 6,000 years near the cave entrance.
The cave holds multiple archaeological artifacts, including ancient fire pits, cave bear bones, Roman-era objects, and medieval settlement remnants.
The cave offers guided tours with professional guides who explain geological formations while visitors need appropriate footwear and warm clothing for exploration.
The cave system divides into Upper and Lower sections, containing preserved evidence of both human habitation and extinct animal species.
