Верхний посад

Upper Posad is a residential district in Vologda that extends from the Vologda-Arkhangelsk railway line to the banks of the Vologda River. The area includes Peace Park and Leningradskaya Street, with several churches such as the Church of Constantine and Helena and the Vladimir Church, as well as the former Gorne-Uspensky Monastery, shaping the character of the neighborhood.

The district was first recorded in 1147 and stands on the site of Vologda Gorodishche, the earliest settlement discovered by archaeologists at present-day Vologda. This early fortified settlement laid the foundation for the city and represents the beginning of continuous urban development at this location.

The Church of Constantine and Helena remains a central reference point in the daily life of local residents and visitors. Over time, this area has maintained its role as a religious and social hub where buildings from different periods coexist visibly.

Exploring the district works best on foot, allowing you to discover the different religious buildings and Peace Park while walking along the riverside paths. The area is easily accessible from the city center and offers enough space to wander and take in the surroundings at a relaxed pace.

The Museum of Forgotten Things operates here, preserving everyday objects that tell stories of life in earlier times. Running beneath the streets is another hidden element: Khrulev Creek once flowed openly through this area but now travels underground.
