Museum of lace in Vologda

The Museum of Lace occupies a two-story stone building on Kremlyovskaya Square that previously served as a State Bank. The exhibition displays approximately 700 pieces showcasing different types of traditional lace work, from intricate geometric patterns to delicate floral designs.

Lace production in the region started in 1820 when the first factory opened in Kovyrino village through the initiative of landowner V. Zasetskaya. This early production established the foundation for a local craft tradition that would later shape the identity of the area.

The collection displays intricately crafted religious garments, household items, and clothing that reflect the skill of local artisans. Visitors can see how lace became woven into daily life and played a role in traditional ceremonies and celebrations.

The museum welcomes visitors on most days of the week, with opening hours typically in the morning and early afternoon. Guided tours are available in multiple languages, which helps visitors without local knowledge navigate the collections.

The museum holds one of the few specialized collections of Russian lace that includes pieces crafted with gold and silver threads. These valuable works represent some of the rarest and most demanding examples of lace-making artistry preserved anywhere.
