Пассаж

The Passage is a two-story building in central Vologda with rounded facades, decorative balconies, and large glass windows spanning its exterior. The structure originally combined residential, trading, and hospitality functions within a single architectural form.

The building began as a residential mansion in the late 1700s and was transformed into a hotel with shops during the 1820s. This shift reflected the city's expanding trade and changing economic activity.

The building once served as a marketplace where traders and shoppers gathered on the ground floor, while guests stayed and dined in the upper areas. This mix of commerce and hospitality made it a natural meeting point in daily city life.

The building has been under restoration work for several years, so you can view it from the outside only. Visit during daytime to see the facade and architectural details in good light and get a clear sense of its design.

Russian poet Sergei Yesenin stayed here in July 1917 with his fiancée and dined together in the restaurant. This brief visit connects the building to an important moment involving a major literary figure of that era.
