Jacob Reck building, Historic apartment building in Khamovniki District, Russia.
The Jacob Reck building on Prechistenka Street is a stone residential structure decorated with ornamental details typical of early 1900s Moscow. The facade displays elaborate embellishments that fit with the refined residential architecture of that Moscow era.
Gustav Helrich designed this building in 1911 for a Russian banker who invested his wealth in Moscow real estate. Its construction occurred when the financial sector was driving the city's urban development.
The building reflects how wealthy Muscovites of the early 1900s preferred to live, with carefully designed facades that showed status and refined taste. The street itself was a favored address for successful merchants and financial figures of that era.
The building is centrally located in Moscow and remains an active residential property with heritage protection status. Visitors can view the facade from the street, but the interior is not open to the public.
The building comes from an era when private bankers like Reck personally shaped Moscow's skyline by financing large housing projects. Such individual investments shaped the city's character more than today's government planning processes.
