Knop mansion

The Knop mansion is a Gothic Revival complex with pointed arches, carved stone ornaments, and decorative details across its facades. The estate comprises several connected structures that form a cohesive ensemble of residential and support buildings.

Karl Treiman designed this complex during Moscow's 19th-century architectural transformation, when wealthy merchants built grand residences throughout the district. Gothic Revival style was a favored choice among the merchant class of that period.

The mansion reflects how wealthy merchants lived in Moscow and the tastes they displayed through architecture and interior space. Walking through it shows how prosperous residents of that era arranged their homes and valued decoration.

The estate sits on Kolpachnaia Lane in the Basmanny District and consists of several buildings that can be explored on foot. Plan to spend time observing the architectural details and overall layout, as there is much to notice across the complex.
