Church of Trinity in Khokhly, Moscow, Orthodox church building in Basmanny District, Moscow, Russia.
Church of Trinity in Khokhly is a brick building with traditional Moscow Baroque architecture located in Basmanny District. The main structure rises higher than its attached bell tower and follows an octagon-on-cube design pattern.
The building was constructed in 1696 and served as an important place of religious life for several centuries. In 1935 it was closed during the Soviet period and its domes were removed, fundamentally changing its appearance.
The structure displays Moscow Baroque design from the late 17th century, with architectural elements typical of religious buildings from that period. Red brick surfaces and distinctive window patterns show the local building style that was common throughout the city at the time.
The church is located at Khokhlovsky Lane number 14 and is best reached by taking the metro to Kitai-Gorod station. Visitors should note that the area in Basmanny District is densely built up and most visits involve walking through narrow streets.
The building was damaged in 1935 when Soviet authorities removed its domes and closed it. Today visitors can see how this characteristic feature of Moscow Baroque churches was lost while the structure retained its historic appearance.
