The bronze statue depicts Mikhail Shchepkin sitting in a chair, holding a cane, placed on a polished pink granite pedestal.
Sculptors Vyacheslav Klykov and Anatoly Shishkov, along with architect Stanislav Mikhalev, created this monument in November 1988 for Shchepkin's 200th anniversary.
The monument stands next to the Belgorod Drama Theater, which bears Shchepkin's name since 1956, commemorating his contributions to Russian theater.
The monument was relocated from near Smolensky Cathedral to its current location at Sobornaya Square in 1998, where cultural events take place.
The memorial plaque on the pedestal provides information about Mikhail Shchepkin, a 19th-century actor who developed realism in Russian theatrical arts.
