Yachenskoe Reservoir, reservoir in Russia
Yachenskoe Reservoir is the largest artificial water body in Kaluga, stretching about 2.5 kilometers long and roughly 800 meters wide. Water depths reach approximately 7 meters, allowing for various water sports including wakeboarding, SUP-surfing, and boating activities.
The reservoir was created in 1980 at the mouth of the Yachka River to support water sports events and activities. Its construction led to the development of recreational and sporting infrastructure around the water.
The reservoir is known locally as Kaluga Sea and functions as the city's main water recreation hub. The surrounding pine forest backdrop shapes how residents and visitors experience the waterfront as a place for gathering and leisure.
The area is accessible from multiple entry points including a boat pier, beach area, and parking for visitors. Beginner courses are available with experienced instructors who teach various water sports from wakeboarding to SUP-surfing.
During winter months the surface freezes over and fishermen as well as cyclists use the ice for their activities. This seasonal transformation shows how the water space feels entirely different depending on the season.
