Nadezhda Durova Estate, Elabuga

The Nadezhda Durova Estate is a museum and federal cultural heritage site in Elabuga with five rooms displaying personal belongings and military equipment from the 19th century. The rooms present furniture and everyday items from when the Russian officer lived there.

The estate was home to Nadezhda Durova, who served in the Russian army during the Napoleonic Wars and settled here starting in 1831. She spent her final decades in this place and died here in 1866 after her years of military service.

The museum shows how Durova built a military career despite social restrictions placed on women of her time. The displayed objects reveal her daily life balancing military duty with personal thoughts.

The museum is housed in a residential building in a quiet part of Elabuga and offers guided tours. Visitors should check which languages are available and allow enough time to see all five rooms properly.

The estate preserves the writing room where Durova composed her memoirs, which the renowned poet Alexander Pushkin admired. This literary recognition made her a notable figure in Russian cultural history.
