Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian, Eastern Orthodox church in Naberezhnye Chelny, Russia.
The Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian is an Orthodox house of worship in Naberezhnye Chelny featuring a striking central dome and bell tower in Byzantine Revival style. The main structure is complemented by two smaller chapels on the grounds, one honoring Saint Margarita of Menzelinsk and the other Saint Andrey Rublev.
Merchant Ivan Stakheev financed construction of the church between 1854 and 1859, making it the oldest surviving building in Naberezhnye Chelny. After closure during the 1930s, the building returned to Orthodox Church control in 1990 and has served as an active place of worship since then.
The church is dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian, two healers venerated in Orthodox tradition as protectors of the faithful. Visitors sense how this devotion remains alive today through the prayers and rituals of the active congregation.
The church is located in the Orlovka district along Naberezhnochelninsky Prospekt and is easily accessible from the street. Visitors can find information through kamblago.ru to plan visit times and understand any access guidelines.
The building survived decades of closure during Soviet times when religious structures were often demolished or repurposed. Its return to active worship after 1990 marks it as a symbol of religious restoration in the region.
