The original mansion endured destruction during the French occupation of Moscow in 1812, underwent restoration, and transformed from communal apartments into a museum in 1970.
The museum maintains collections of historical artifacts, archaeological discoveries, and Soviet-era items that document the development of the Meshchansky district since Moscow's foundation.
The museum welcomes visitors every day except Monday, with extended hours until 21:00 on Thursdays and regular admission from 10:00 to 18:00 on other weekdays.
