Сквер Дивизий Московского Народного Ополчения, Garden in Sokol district, Moscow, Russia.
Divisions of Moscow People's Militia Square stretches along Second Peschanaya Street with wide central and side paths covering 3.5 hectares of green space. The grounds are shaded by maple, ash, and apple trees, with seating areas, children's playgrounds, and workout zones distributed throughout.
The square was created in 1954 after the Khodynka River was redirected into an underground collector, transforming a former ravine into public recreational space. This transformation was part of Moscow's urban renewal efforts in the Sokol area.
The rows of chestnut trees along the central axis lead to a neoclassical fountain that has appeared in Soviet-era films and literary works, making it an enduring symbol of the area. This fountain continues to be a focal point where locals and visitors gather and photograph.
The area is easy to navigate with shaded paths that are especially pleasant on hot days, and numerous spots for resting throughout. Wear comfortable shoes for walking and allow time to explore the full extent of the grounds and discover all the different activity areas.
The square was renamed in 2018 to honor four divisions of Moscow civilian volunteers who defended the city during World War II. This naming connects the peaceful green space today with an important chapter of the city's wartime history.
