Memorial to the victims of the fight against terrorism, Memorial monument in central Grozny, Russia.
The Memorial to the victims of the fight against terrorism in Grozny is composed of 38 irregularly shaped black stones displaying names of individuals who died during counter-terrorism operations. A central 70-ton black monolith anchors the site, with an inscription at its base reading 'Let justice prevail - Akhmad Kadyrov'.
The memorial was first unveiled in May 2010 at Akhmad Kadyrov Square before being relocated to a site near Grozny City Hall. The change of location reflected a shift in how the city wanted to position this tribute within its public spaces.
The names carved in gold honor people from different backgrounds who died during counter-terrorism operations: police officers, religious leaders, and government officials. The arrangement of stones reflects the varied roles these individuals held in serving their community.
The site is located near the city's administrative center and is accessible on foot. When visiting, it is helpful to go during daytime hours so the inscriptions carved into the stones can be read clearly, and the location remains open throughout the year.
Five of the black stones bear names of officers and cavalry members from the Chechen Cavalry Regiment who served in World War I. This connection links the memorial to an earlier chapter of history and creates a bridge across different generations.
