A. P. Yermolov haykali, Bronze monument in Grozny, Russia.
The A. P. Yermolov monument was a bronze sculpture in Grozny that depicted the general as a bust mounted on a four-sided sandstone pedestal. The work stood near Yermolov's original shelter and shaped the city's appearance with its classical form.
The monument was presented to the city in 1881 by Prince Dondukov-Korsakov and honored the commander who founded the Grozny fortress. It commemorated an important founder from the city's early history.
The monument displayed inscriptions featuring Yermolov's words about his deep connection to Russian identity. Visitors could read these personal reflections on the cast iron plates and gain insight into the general's worldview.
The monument stood on present-day Chernyshevsky Street, formerly Yermolovskaya Street, near the officers' building of the Kurinsky Infantry Regiment. The location is easy to identify if you know the historical street names.
The original head of the sculpture was removed in 1926 and spent decades in the Grozny Regional Museum. Sculptor Tverdokhlebov used this preserved head in 1949 to recreate the complete bust.
