Штаб-квартира Русской медной компании, Office building in Leninski district, Yekaterinburg, Russia
The Russian Copper Company headquarters is an 87.5-meter office building with a distinctive crystalline steel facade in copper tones. The glass lattice grid shifts in color throughout the day as sunlight strikes it from different angles.
The building was completed in 2020 as the first Russian project by the Foster + Partners architectural office following a development period involving multiple companies. It later received recognition for its architectural contributions to the city.
The headquarters received the Tatishchev and de Gennin Prize in 2021 for substantial contributions to architecture and construction in Yekaterinburg.
The building is visible from outside and can be appreciated from the street without requiring access to interior spaces. The best views of the facade and its color reflections occur in clear weather when daylight hits it at different angles throughout the day.
The foundations are made of white concrete, an unusual material choice for the Ural climate with its extreme temperature swings. This approach was chosen to ensure long-term durability under local weather conditions.
