Vamlingbo Church, Medieval church in Gotland Municipality, Sweden
Vamlingbo Church is a Gothic stone building with a spacious nave supported by four pillars of alternating red and grey limestone. The structure includes a cemetery and is accompanied by an adjacent former rectory with multiple outbuildings.
An earlier wooden church was replaced in the 14th century by the current stone building, making it more durable and spacious. Lightning damage in 1820 required the original tower to be rebuilt.
Medieval murals on the northern wall show the archangel Michael weighing a soul in a scene of spiritual judgment. These paintings stand among the most expressive religious artworks created on the island.
The site is easily accessible by car and has ample parking in front of the church for visitors. The building remains active with regular services and can be visited by groups with prior arrangement.
The adjacent former rectory displays Rococo architecture from 1779 with a main house and four outbuildings in local building style. This complex of structures creates an interesting contrast to the medieval church.
