Öja Church

The stone church contains three carved Gothic portals, with the northern portal displaying detailed sculptures of religious figures including Jesus and Mary.

The construction began in the 13th century with the choir and apse, followed by the nave, and the tower was completed in the 14th century.

The interior walls display murals from the 15th century depicting the Passion of Christ, along with ornamental decorations from the 13th century in the vaults.

The church stands as a navigation landmark for seafarers and remains an active place of worship within the Diocese of Visby on Gotland island.

A large triumphal cross from 1275 hangs inside the church, representing one of the most significant medieval artworks found on Gotland island.
