Krusenstiernska gården

Krusenstiernska gården is a residential complex from the 1800s consisting of multiple wooden buildings enclosed by a tall fence. The property sits close to Kalmar Castle and demonstrates how wealthy families of that era lived in their rural setting.

Hermina von Krusenstierna purchased the estate in 1874 and operated it as a self-sustaining farm, selling surplus harvests at the local market. The complex reflects the lifestyle of Swedish nobility in the late 1800s.

The collection displays furniture and objects belonging to the von Krusenstierna family, including rare items brought back from their travels to the East Indies. Visitors can see how a wealthy household of the 1800s furnished their rooms and displayed the treasures they gathered from distant places.

The site is accessible seasonally from late April through September and is best explored through guided tours. These walks provide clear explanations about daily life in the 1800s as you move through the buildings.

This is the only preserved bourgeois country house in Kalmar that maintains its original layout and dimensions. This makes it a remarkable record of how urban garden estates were planned and built in the 1800s.
