Skansen Aquarium, Animal and aquarium complex in Royal Djurgarden, Sweden.
Skansen Aquarium is an indoor animal facility on the island of Djurgården in Stockholm, housing fish tanks, monkey enclosures, crocodile pools, and bird aviaries. The building is divided into several sections, each focused on a different group of animals from tropical and subtropical regions.
The aquarium opened in 1978 within the grounds of Skansen, the open-air museum that has been on the island since 1891. Over the years, the facility gradually expanded to include more animal species and new enclosures.
The facility serves as a learning space where visitors discover marine life and tropical animals from different parts of the world. It demonstrates the diversity of life in warm waters and jungle environments.
Entry to the aquarium is not covered by the general Skansen admission, so a separate ticket is needed. Arriving early in the day gives you a better chance of catching feeding times and interactive sessions with the animals.
One section of the facility allows visitors to touch smaller reptiles directly, which is not common in a typical aquarium setting. These hands-on moments take place several times a week and tend to draw a lot of attention from younger visitors.
