Sundbyfortet, Military fortress in Stockholm, Sweden
The V-shaped infantry fortification stands on a cliff shelf near Lake Orlången, featuring a semi-circular roof structure and multiple defensive positions.
The fortress, completed in 1915, formed part of Stockholm's Southern Front defense system, constructed before and during World War I to protect against attacks from the south.
Crown Prince Gustaf VI Adolf inaugurated this fortress, which represents the shift in Swedish defensive strategy from central defense to border and coastal protection around 1900.
The fortress remained in military use until 1999, equipped to house one platoon and contained four machine gun positions for defensive operations.
Private individuals and organizations funded the construction through entities like the Stockholm Fixed Defense Association and the Palmqvist Fund for Stockholm Fortification.
