Orlången, Natural lake in Huddinge Municipality, Sweden
Orlången is a natural lake in Huddinge Municipality, south of Stockholm, connected to three other water bodies that form a single linked system. The lake is surrounded by forest, farmland, and wetlands within a protected area.
The Orlången Nature Reserve was formally designated in 1998 to protect the landscape and its historical features. Several estates and farmsteads from the 18th century still stand in the surrounding area.
The lake sits at the heart of a nature reserve that draws walkers and birdwatchers from the surrounding towns. The quieter bays are especially popular for watching waterbirds up close.
A regional fishing permit is required before casting a line, as the lake holds pike, perch, roach, and crayfish. Marked trails run around the lake and are accessible in most seasons, making it easy to explore on foot.
The Bottnen wetlands near Mörtsjön are home to great crested grebe, mute swan, and osprey, which are rarely seen so close together. This corner of the water system shows how the four linked lakes function as a shared habitat for birds.
