Villa Wingårdh

Villa Wingårdh is a residential building on the Swedish coast built around 1910 with classical architectural features. The house sits on sloping terrain above the Öresund strait and uses local materials adapted to the natural landscape.

The house was built in 1910 on land where an earlier villa called Ekeliden once stood before being given to the Swedish royal family. The owner August Wingårdh received this location as compensation after his previous estate had to make way for royal purposes.

The building shows how wealthy industrial families in early 20th-century Helsingborg chose to live in elegant coastal homes. It reflects the lifestyle and local building preferences of that era.

The house is private property visible from the coastal road but not open for regular visits. The best time to view it is during lighter months when daylight shows off the building and its waterfront setting to advantage.

The villa's creation is tied to the royal needs of the nearby Sofiero Castle whose owners required an unobstructed water view. Wingårdh accepted the relocation and ended up building himself an even more impressive coastal home with better views than before.
