Tysta Marigången, arcade in Stockholm, Sweden
Tysta Marigangen is an underground passageway approximately 130 meters long that connects Tegelbacken street to Klara västra kyrkogata. Stairways in the middle and at the northern end lead up to Herkulesgatan and Vattugatan streets above.
The passage was named in 1970 after the southern part of Klara västra kyrkogatan was removed during city planning. The name comes from a nearby cafe called Tysta Mari that once served as a popular gathering spot.
The passage takes its name from a historic cafe called Tysta Mari that once attracted artists, writers, and journalists to its quiet setting. The corridor still carries this memory of a peaceful gathering place from Stockholm's past.
The corridor is pedestrian-friendly with no vehicle traffic, making it safe for families and children. It is covered, providing a practical route between streets regardless of weather conditions.
The space has undergone significant changes over the decades and today serves various groups who use it for different purposes in its quiet setting. Future renovation plans aim to transform it into a bright indoor shopping gallery, making it more welcoming to visitors.
