Fjälkinge backe, Nature reserve in Kristianstad Municipality, Sweden.
Fjälkinge backe is a nature reserve in Kristianstad Municipality that rises about 100 meters above the flat surrounding plain. The hill is covered with pine forests, mixed woodlands, and pastures, particularly in its southern section.
The reserve was established as a protected area in 1968. Geologically, the hill is an ancient residual formation of gneiss granite that rises from limestone deposits, making it a significant geological landmark.
The hill serves as a refuge for plants and animals that are scarce in this flat region. Visitors can explore species-rich meadows and flowering fields that make the reserve special for observing local wildlife.
The reserve has a marked footpath of about 3.3 kilometers, parking for around a dozen vehicles, and basic facilities including toilets and rest spots with tables. Access is straightforward and suitable for various fitness levels.
Two natural springs emerge at the edge of the hill and supply fresh water to the surrounding pastures, with the southern spring having long served as a water source. These springs make the location an important water point for local wildlife and farming.
