Ormo skärmanläggning, Flood control barrage in Kungälv Municipality, Sweden.
The Ormo barrage consists of two submerged screens, each weighing 100 tons, spanning 140 meters in length and 6 meters in height across Nordre älv.
The barrage installation began operations in 1934 to regulate water flow between Nordre älv and the Gothenburg branch of Göta älv river system.
The structure represents Swedish engineering expertise in water management, maintaining the balance between maritime traffic and freshwater supply for local communities.
Navigation through the barrage includes two channels: a 5-meter wide passage for small boats and a 65-meter wide channel for larger vessels.
The screens remain on the riverbed during normal flow conditions but rise when river flow drops below 300 cubic meters per second.
