Wat Phra That Khao Noi

Wat Phra That Khao Noi is a Buddhist temple situated on a hillside near Nan, housing a golden Buddha statue in walking position that gazes eastward over the valley. The main structure is a cone-shaped chedi surrounded by smaller pavilions and monk quarters on the elevated grounds.

The temple was founded in 1487 and has served as an important spiritual site in the Nan region for centuries. Its main structure houses sacred Buddhist relics that reflect the age-old religious significance of the place.

The temple serves as a gathering place for locals who come to meditate during morning prayers and leave offerings at the shrines. Visitors can observe people lighting incense sticks and sitting quietly in contemplation, making it a living center of community faith.

The temple sits about 2.5 kilometers southwest of Nan's bus station and is accessible by tuk-tuk, songthaew, or bicycle without difficulty. The uphill walk is moderate, and it helps to bring water and take breaks along the way.

The elevated position provides sweeping views of the entire Nan valley, making it a favored spot for sunrise photography. The eastward-facing orientation of the Buddha statue creates a natural alignment with dawn light that gives the morning visits special appeal.
