Tilkiler Cave, Natural cave formation in Manavgat, Turkey
Tilkiler Cave is a natural cave formation in Manavgat that contains multiple chambers with water-filled sections throughout its passages. The cave system extends for thousands of meters underground and varies in depth based on seasonal water levels.
The cave was discovered in 1976 during construction work on the Oymapınar Dam when workers were creating an injection gallery. This chance discovery later allowed researchers to explore and map the underground system more fully.
French speleologists created sand structures in a specific chamber of the cave in 1977, which remained intact for over 27 years.
Visiting the cave requires walking through water in several sections, so wet feet should be expected. Bring sturdy footwear and flashlights, as the passages remain quite dark throughout.
Deep within the cave lies a chamber completely covered in sand called the Hall of Castles. French speleologists created intricate sand structures there in 1977 that remained intact for decades.
