Guanxi Township

Guanxi is an urban township in mountainous terrain northeast of Hsinchu, spread across about 21 villages. The landscape shows green hills, farmland, and small settlements scattered through a hilly region.

The area was settled at the end of the 18th century and was called Meili Village before it was renamed after 1945. Names and administration changed as different governments took control of the region.

People here speak Hakka and keep old craft traditions alive, visible in the villages and local markets. Visitors can experience these ways through the food and handmade goods they find in daily life.

You can reach the area by bus or car using Highway 3, with Guanxi Bus Station serving as a useful landmark. It is best to allow extra time for travel because of the hilly roads and to watch for conditions in the mountain areas.

The local farms here produce grass jelly and grow tea plants without using pesticides or artificial fertilizers. Visitors can learn how these farming methods work on the land, which is what makes this place known for its products.
