Wuzhi Mountain Military Cemetery, Military cemetery in Xizhi District, Taiwan
Wuzhi Mountain Military Cemetery is a burial ground in Xizhi District, Taiwan, with several thousand grave sites for members of the armed forces. The grounds sit on an elevated area and include a large columbarium building where urns are kept.
The grounds opened in 1982 following designs by Wego Chiang that had been prepared during the previous decade. Since its founding, the cemetery has served as a central resting place for Taiwanese military personnel and their families.
Families of fallen soldiers visit the grounds regularly during holidays and important anniversaries to pay respects to their departed relatives. The site takes its name from five characteristic peaks in the surrounding area that resemble a human hand.
The Reserve Command of the Defense Ministry manages the area daily from eight in the morning until five in the afternoon. Paths lead through well-kept lawns and rows of trees, so visitors can reach the graves without difficulty.
Discussions about a possible transfer of the remains of two former presidents to this location have continued for years, though a final decision remains pending. The cemetery sits within a forested hillside that opens views toward the coast on clear days.
