Chen Dexing Ancestral Hall, Ancestral hall in Datong District Taipei, Taiwan.
Chen Dexing Ancestral Hall is a structure built in southern Fujian style, featuring hand-carved wooden details and a double-eaved roof that slopes on four sides. The interior layout was designed to accommodate family gatherings and ritual activities.
The building was first constructed in 1892 and later needed to be relocated from its original location during the Japanese administration period. It was rebuilt and established at its present Datong District location in 1911.
The hall served as a gathering space where the Chen family performed ancestral rites that strengthened bonds across generations. The layout and decorative elements still support these family-centered practices today.
The site is accessible from Shuanglian Metro Station with a short walk from the platform. Visiting during daytime hours makes it easier to view the building and understand its layout.
A notable feature is a decorated stone pillar carved with twin-dragon patterns that demonstrates how craftspeople applied techniques during Taiwan's early modern period. This carved element is often passed by without notice despite reflecting regional skill.
