Spartak Stadium, Kyiv, Stadion in der Ukraine
Spartak Stadium is a multi-purpose sports complex in Kyiv located in the Podil district with a grass field and stands for approximately 5000 spectators. The facility includes two indoor sports halls, a 25-meter indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a hotel and competition areas for athletics, football, rugby and American football.
The stadium was established in 1934 when Kyiv became the capital of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and the sports organization Spartak was founded. After World War II additional facilities including tennis courts and athletic fields were added, and in 1979 it was renovated in preparation for the Moscow Olympics and used as a venue for rugby matches.
The name Spartak comes from an ancient warrior and gladiator whose story inspired the founders when creating this sports venue. Since its establishment, the stadium has served as a gathering place for neighborhood athletes, coaches and fans where local schools train their young players and spectators regularly come to watch matches.
The stadium is easily accessible via Kyrylivska Street and visitors can freely use the public areas and green spaces. It helps to visit during daytime hours to explore the different sections and sports fields since the facilities have varying hours depending on the training schedule.
A bronze bas-relief at the entrance depicts Spartak as an ancient warrior and freedom fighter and was removed during the 2025 restoration to preserve it. This artwork symbolizes the significance of the place and was carefully protected for future generations.
